Welcome!

Welcome, one and all, to our inaugural year of the National Homeschool Book Award!

We’re happy to have you here with us for a great year of book reading and learning together!! We’ve been working hard on this idea for quite a while and we’re so excited to kick off our first year!

In addition to reading the books and voting, we have lots of fun ideas for expanding on the stories through blog posts throughout the year!  Look for posts exploring further some of the topics in each of the books, like solar eclipses (Every Soul a Star), wilderness survival (Alabama Moon), rocks (Lucy & Snowcap), and locations of other “largest things” (Savvy).

Also, if you like the idea of starting your own NHBA book club group, a series of posts will give you how-to tips, along with ideas for activities centered around each of the four books you might try as part of your meetings (or even just with your own kids!)

As literature-loving homeschool parents ourselves, we’ll also use the blog to look at other great juvenile fiction out there that, while not on our short list for this year, may be of interest to other homeschoolers.

So, join us for a great year of learning from and celebrating these wonderful books – and we’ll look forward to hearing from everyone in the fall which book was their favorite!
