Book Clubs
Our Philosophy
The phrase “book club” has come to mean so much more to us here at NHBA than the
quiet discussion-focused gathering most people probably envision when hearing
those words. After years of experience running a successful local homeschool
book club and delving deeper into read-aloud research for our For the Love of
Reading workshops, this is OUR definition of “book club.” show more
Truly connecting with a novel through various aspects, such as (but not limited
to!):
- the sound of it being read aloud
- the sharing of thoughts and feelings with
those also engaged by the story
- following the book wherever it inspires you--maybe
with activities, food, experiences or all three!
Each book is different, and so each book club gathering will be different, too.
But whether the book inspires the writing of a haiku, the eating of flan or the
open dialog about the connections between this book and a favorite movie, it is
ultimately the sharing of these experiences in a community of fellow readers
that are vital to our use of the term “book club.”
